    Dash Dashpad Retrimming

    Hi,

sorry if this has been asked before, my search didn't find it :-)

my dashpad is brittle and has a few big cracks in it, what are the ways to repair / renew this? (63/64 pre-airflow, blue)

    cheers,
    Woody

Had mine covered in new vinyl. Problem is you can't remove the old, cracked one, because it sticks to the padding. So, the pad can have cracks, but must be reasonably even and without too many bumps or sharp edges.

I also just had mine recovered to cover one very small crack......even then, you can just barely see where the crack was if you know where to look.

If you have a mjor crack, it might need to be filled with some sort of epoxy before recovering the while thing.....either that, or strip all the padding off, and have the upholstery guy re-wrap it with some very thin foam before covering.

I remember an article about reflocking, refrocking a dash. That's the fine mouse hair like stuff on older dashes. If that'll help I can look around for it.

    Thanks Jewels + all

I have the 64 pre-airflow, so it's just a plain dash with a single bend, plus those vertical lines every inch or so. The foam doesn't seem to be sticking to the metal, I'll see what dashboard doctor says when I send him some photos.

    cheers,
    Woody
