    Newbie

I'd be the first to admit, I've never gone out looking to buy a Cortina. I've always loved them but the stars never lined up until now. One of those friend of a friend of a friend things led me to a basically abandoned Mk1 with a bunch of nice suspension pieces under it. Neat looking flares, roll cage, fuel cell, 3.91 rear, lexan all around and fiberglass hood, decklid and doors.
Come to find out it raced in the ICSCC, won the 87 ITB championship. Long story short...pretty cool. Trying figure out a front brake setup and what motor/trans combo to throw in it to go run some track days!!
Glad I found the site, sweet!!

    press 'post reply'
then look for the' paper clip icon' (if the images are on your PC)

if they are on imagebucket or similar you just use the the 'scenery icon' to upload images

make sure they are resized to about 800x600

Ok, thanks to the wife! Pics up!

It's not much at the moment, but I'll get going on it this summer. Trying to work on a brake setup with the help of Maier Racing here in California.
    Thanks for all the welcomes...

If I remember correctly, that car was featured on Bringatrailer.com a few months ago......surprised it didn't sell back then.

Well, not my man cave, the guy I bought it from was super hard core British Ford.. numerous Anglia's a couple of other Cortina's, a Lotus open wheel car, Falcon, Torino.....just tons of stuff...
And I do believe it was on bring a trailer and I saw it on Craigs months ago, but didn't sell.
In any case, I'm going to keep it a racer, build it to autocross and do some track duty. Sort of a starter car for my daughter...
I was seriously thinking about going rotary, 13b motor and a 5 speed. Very light, decent power, can find them pretty much anywhere here. It fits with my budget, I have a regular track car and am building two other Mustangs at the moment so I can't get to crazy.....but really am leaning towards the RX-7 power....thoughts???

Great bubble arches! Like the detailing on those rear ones - really go with the rear wing pattern. Rotary engine? Why not as long as long as you won't have to cut the thing to pieces to fit it. Anybody know if there are any other 'Rotarinas' about?

nice, cant say i ever thought Escort bubbles would work on a Cortina. but they do.

as fun as they i wouldnt go rotary. i played with a rotary mk1 escort once, lots of fun, but smething just isnt right, if you get what i mean?

also what is it with mk1 cortinas and falcon sprints in the background at the moment? the shots of my car there is a 63 sprint in the background too

It came with the bubbles and I agree, they do look kindof cool but the car really is a 20 footer. It's pretty rough when you get up close, many years of racing ya know?
I've been cruising the various sites on engine swaps, looking at hp to weight, cost, ease of install and maintenance. Doesn't really seem that rotary would be any worse than anything else (from a moral standpoint). Except its tons lighter than a Pinto mill.
Still in the planning stages, need to finish the cage, put in the windows, put the correct fuel cell in it, figure out the front brakes. Does anyone run the Wilwoods??

In any case, lots to do. Hope to have her rolling by the end of the summer....

I'm not a fan of cross breeding however on a HP/Dollar ratio a 13B with a good bridgeport and 51mm weber should offer around 230hp+ at the wheels and they are very cheap to maintain/rebuild and you certainly won't see anything like that from a boat anchor pinto. The injected IPRA RX-7's over here are heading north of 280hp at the wheels now.

As for brakes the Wilwoods have a reputation for flexing/spreading.

Thats Mike Summers old car I believe, seems like a great starting point....
If ya thinking of going to sacreligious w/ the Mazda rotiserie, whay not a GM LS series V8.... (i would put one in mine if I didn't bleed so blue!)
Light, tons of grunt for not a lotta mods...Would probably mean re-engineering the whole drivetrain though.......

Well, I bleed Ford Blue as well....6 Fords, a Mercury and the lone 57 Plymouth. And Ford does own (or has the majority stake in) Mazda...so technically it should be Zoom Blue Zoom. And if I decided on a Duratec or something along that line, that same motor comes in the Mazda 6 so not that far from the real truth. Dead set against anything brand X, don't care how much power the LS stuff makes....no way no how. Like has been said best bang for the buck. This could all change tomorrow in any case, a few other things ahead of it priority wise so we'll see.
Wilwoods are no good huh? Got Wilwoods on my track car and it'll plant your eyeballs against your goggles.....
What's the next best thing then??
